Hockey recap: Feb. 6

Girls' hockey
Coon Rapids 3, Anoka 2
Cardinals junior Rachael Bona scored once and assisted on a second goal after Anoka sophomore Katie Johnson made it 1-0 1:08 into the game in Coon Rapids . The win gives Coon Rapids an 8-2-2 record in the second half of the year and a five game winning streak.

Champlin Park 3, Andover 2
The Huskies finished the season on a downward spiral, finishing the year 1-8-1, losing the final four straight games. Andover senior Jackie Merriam scored the lone goal of the first period and sophomore Olivia Vogel scored the equalizer late in the third period before the Rebels scored with 34 seconds left in the game. Champlin Park out shot Andover 53-16 as sophomore Madison Denny made 50 saves in the loss. Andover faces No. 15 ranked (Class AA) in the Section 5AA opener in Rosevile at 6 pm Feb. 13.

(No. 5 AA) Elk River/Zimmerman 2, Blaine 0
The Bengals struggled to score goals this season, losing the final four games while being out scored 10-3. The Bengals face Spring Lake Park /St. Anthony Village Wednesday  night in the opening round of the Section 5AA tournament at Roseville Arena.

Spring Lake Park /St. Anthony Village 8, St. Louis Park 1
The Panthers (12-13) finished the regular season in a high note, downing St. Louis Park 8-1. Park's Katie Turner and Kayla Jochum each picked up four points (two goals, two assists) while Kelsey Young scored once and assisted twice. Park goalie Katie Bassett made 13 saves and the Park offense put up 52 shots on the Orioles net minder.


Boys' hockey
St. Francis 6, Totino-Grace 4
Senior winger Joey Benik added six points (two goals, four assists) as St. Francis won a shootout of a game Saturday at the East Bethel rink. St. Francis junior Tyler LeBeaux scored twice and had one assist to help his team improve to 15-6-1 with three games remaining.

(No. 5 A) Mahtomedi 3, (No. 14 A) Spring Lake Park 2
Park had a two-game streak snapped Saturday in a non-conference loss at section-foe Mahtomedi. Park senior Luke Gerding assisted on the first Panthers goal in the second period before scoring tying the game again, 2:52 into the third period. Mahtomedi's Brandon Zurn scored the first and last goals of the game. The first came only 37 seconds into the contest while the game-winner came at the 8:!6 mark of the third period.

(No. 5 AA) Blaine 5, (No. 10 AA) Elk River/Zimmerman 3
The Bengals improved to 15-3-3 as they held its opponent to three goals or less over the last five of six games. Blaine led 5-1 heading into the final period before the Elks rallied for a pair of goals. Blaine 's Nick Bjugstad and Gavin Tufte each scored twice and Jonny Brodzinski had three assists in the important conference win. Blaine improved to 12-0-2 while Centennial remained in second place with a 10-2-1 mark.

Cloquet 5, Anoka 3
The Tornadoes lost for the fifth time in a row and are 1-8 over the last nine games despite scoring three times. Cloquet rallied for a three-goal third period to break a 2-2 tie. Andew Olek, Cale Grinde and Connor Iverson scored for Anoka while Jeff Ramstad made 42 saves in net.

Andover 8, Champlin Park 2
Taylor Portner scored six goals and assisted on another, while teammate Cal Decowski assisted on six goals for Andover Saturday night in a resounding 8-2 win over Champlin Park. In helping Andover raise its record to 14-5-2, Ryan Bennett and Jay Ekman scored single goals.
